Congratulation to Chris Geggus on his close victory!
Chris Hibbert:
I blame the cards. I saw four different bonus cards and none of them
worked with the birds that I had. I only ever saw boring birds with
ordinary powers, and the only positive interaction I was able to
arrange was the Maned Duck giving me a seed that I could discard on
Horsfield's Bushlark for 2 eggs, which I managed to do twice.
I lucked out a little on the round bonuses, getting two tied-for-first and one tied-for second.
Near the end of round 3, I had a bird that I could play for 7 points,
counting the omnivore bonus, but it would have taken two turns to get
the resources, and another to play it. From that point I could see that
4-5 points per turn for laying eggs was the best I was going to do.
Congratulations to Chris Geggus for finding good cards and playing them well, and to Dave for keeping the race tight.
Thanks to our respected GM, as usual, for keeping things running smoothly.
Dave Anderson: Congratulations to Chris G. on his close win
As I had no tuck game and no food game, I could generate eggs for
others and cards for others but no one gave me any food back.
Never thought of Wingspan as a Diplomacy game, but then again...
Thanks to Chris Hassler for his as usual fine GM.
I am ready for another Oceania anytime.
Chris Geggus:
Phew, had to work at that one. I was fortunate to get some high value
birds early on, but they soon disappeared, so had to make sure my bonus
cards paid something and that I could get some points from my penguin.
That seems a powerful card by the way. I don't know if that is one they
ban from tournament play. I'm also still not a great fan of nectar as
it seems rather contrived and there is a lot more reliance on luck of
the roll in the feeding station, one example being the 2 nectar I
grabbed right at the end, which could just so easily have been ordinary
food dice. Always glad to play any of the versions again.
Thanks all and thanks to Chris H.
Christopher Hunt:
Well done to Chris G. Thank to Chris for running the
game. Too many Chris's. Very
enjoyable. Tried to buy cheap birds not good. Got too much food.
